Bouncing Tach After Shifts

Hello --

I'm enjoying the relatively low mile (132K) RSX Type-S that I picked up in June. It was driven by an older person and clearly babied -- quite a gem.

Anyway, I'm noticing something that I think might be the sign of a failing clutch. Every time I upshift and release the clutch the tachometer "bounces" or "wobbles" as it starts at the lower RPM. This is a little bit more severe when the transmission is cold but even warmed up there is a noticeable bounce no matter how softly I feather out the clutch.

I did try going 25-30 MPH, putting it in 6th and giving it some gas and the engine bogs so I don't think it's entirely worn out but I can't help but think that the bounce is some slip or chatter that would only get worse by the day.

One other detail: in first gear idling around a parking garage the car is very jerky: I put it in 2nd in these situations and bog the engine to avoid the jerkiness.

What gives? (Any ideas?)

Thank you!
-Steve
