2002 type s front strut differences

Hi, I have a 2002 RSX that needs struts, but it was made before the VIN split. Acura doesn't make the driver's side strut for these ones anymore, but I saw a few hints that you could make the newer 2002 ones fit. What is involved with this? Drill out the knuckles to 16 mm and new tie rod ends? Has anyone done this, or is there a decent set of aftermarket factory replacements?

What's up everyone I'm new the the whole "Honda/Acura" scene so please bare with me...I just picked up an 03 type s bone stock, 193k and when under 4k it runs great, although when under acceleration above say 4k -4500 the car starts breaking up and you can see the tach needle reflect this, it's just not operating smoothly as it should...in addition vtec still kicks in but the audible difference is just not as pronounced...any advice will be appreciated..

02 rsx cranks but wont start HELP!!

So heres the deal, I had some melted wires in my dash harness in my 02 base 5speed so I went too a wrecker and grabbed a harness and fuse box out of a 2002 type s and put it in. except for a sunroof plug and a fog light plug everything else seems to be the same. got the car all back together went too go start it and it just cranks and cranks. I cant hear the fuel pump come on but the relays by the ecu click. I have a feeling its the immobilizer but Im not sure. I also don't know why it would be that because im using my original key and I didn't change the ecu, immobilizer. I also tried it with the security boxes from both cars and i also switched it back to my old fuse box but still no luck. any help would be greatly appreciated!

03 RSX bent valve?

After running fine i went to leave, it would crank about 20 seconds and go dead. Kept doing that for a while, had someone come look at it, started it up, it stayed going but sounded like crap. Sounded like it wasn't getting enough gas, spitting and sputtering so I cut it right back off. After that, the dealership I got it from come to get it to take to a shop and it wouldn't start at all. The shop said it jumped time, bent a valve and I needed a new motor. I'm a girl, know nothing about cars, just ordered an engine and now someone is telling me that it's probably not a bent valve. That 03 has chains, blah blah no way it broke or jumped time. I know no one here can probably give me a definitive answer but can someone tell me what most likely happened. Do I need to trust the one mechanic that looked at it and buy a new engine? He said he knew it had bent a valve by feeling/wiggling it. If it did bend a valve, is there a simpler way of fixing it? Any advice would be appreciated. It's a base model, automatic if that makes any difference. TIA

Hey guys, BestCoast here with a new (to me) 2004 RSX type S! Picked it up last night from the original owner with 78,089 km on it. Car was garage stored, never modified and only driven on weekends so it was a dream to find!

Only downside is some rust coming up from where the bumper meets the quarter panel (I'm guessing the previous owner didn't get down and wash underneath and in the wheel wells as the paint is otherwise mint) so first up will be chopping off any rust! Brakes also need a refresh soon so that's on the docket as well. Aside from that I'm planning on driving the car for a while and slowly making changes where I see fit. Already thinking I'll need to upgrade to a lsd and remedy the third gear issue though!

Looking forward to loving and driving this car, hopefully my wife doesn't get too jealous :laughing:

Stiff 1st Gear- Notchy 2nd Gear

Hey all, so I had my clutch changed about 8000 km ago and in the beginning all the gears were very stiff. Eventually they smoothed out but my first to second gear have become a pain. When going into first gear everything is fine as long as I'm almost at a complete stop, but pulling it out into second gear is very stiff. It's almost like it doesn't wanna be moved but with a little force it's like it somewhat pops out. Now, this only happens when shifting above 3000 rpm anywhere beneath that is butter. The next issue is when shifting into second (only from 1st) it's not grinding but is "notchy". I can actually feel something spinning as if the clutch didn't fully disengage first gear. Again, this only happens over 3000 rpm and does not happen when downshifting from third. Car behaves fine when it's off so maybe its not a tranny issue? I brought it back to the mechanic twice with excuses that everything is acting fine. The last time i brought it back he told me it's fine but you could use a clutch pedal adjustment. Lastly, not sure if he changed my tranny fluid when he put in the clutch but that'll prob be my next step and hopeful guess. ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED!!

Just bought an 03 RSX

Hey everyone, I just bought a 2003 RSX with 153k on it. My plans are to use it for daily driving since there are other cars I dabble with currently. So I've done a little research but definitely could use more help. I have owned a few Hondas before but never an Acura. Right now the remote for the locks is functioning but the locks don't lock. I've heard it could be the actuators but it seems to me like it might be the remote transponder, which I know is behind the radio, or maybe a fuse. If anyone else can chime in I would appreciate it.

I also am looking to see if anyone can point me in the right direction for the center dash trim where the AC vent is and the knobs that control the air are. Mine has a crack in it and I'd like to replace it but haven't had much luck. Also, how do you take it out, are they any "how to" videos on this. Again I have done a little searching but have not found what I am looking for.

Any help you guys can give me or tips or things I should be looking out for with the amount of miles on the car I am all ears. I probably won't put any major mods on but definitely want to give this car the TLC it deserves. Thanks again.

So I recently began working on my type s again. I have an 05 and dropped a k24a2 in it. I have some minor mods like kiddracing race headers/sri/exhaust. I uploaded the basemap of the stock tsx motor. car is running really lean atm. idleing around 15.9:1. I need some help to make sure my car runs better. hopefully someone on here can help me as Im an noob with kpro. im not trying to race the car I just want it to get good gas milage and run safe. let me know if theres some tips to help with this. I don't want to blow or mess up any internals.

weird water leak

Hey guys, I held off on posting this until I tested a few things, but I'm stumped. Last year when I did my dash swap, and leaving my a pillars off I noticed a water leak coming from under the top spot welds on both sides of the car, I figured it was the windshield seal, so a few months ago I had my windshield replaced. Still leaked at the same spots. So I figured it was a sunroof issue but wanted to rule out everything else first. A few days ago I pulled all the interior parts out to get the headliner out and noticed 2 areas that rusted on the c pillars. (I believe this has to do with a Crack near the rear of the passenger rain gutter).

Anyways, today my first idea was to double check the gutters and windshield...I poured water carefully into the front of the drivers side rain gutter, and let it flow under the windshield seal...and it started to leak. If it wasn't the actual windshield seal, since it leaked both before and after the windshield replacement, what could it be?? I'm going to try to get the windshield side trim off without breaking them (safelite had to buy me brand new ones because they broke them), and Imy not sure if I can get the top seal off...the safelite tech put the seal on the glass before putting it in the car so Idk if that holds it in or anything. And I don't want to go just stuffing sealant in places and see if it stops, so I'm hoping someone has an idea what it could be. I'm going to test the rest of the areas and see what happens. The drain tubes look to be connected well at the top so I doubt it's those.

Hey CRSX, Im selling my Rsx Base Model 5-Speed to get a camry. It currently has 1574xx miles and will continue to go up as it's my daily. The Rsx is clean title but was involved in an accident by the previous owner but still holds a clean title no frame damage of that sort it is on the driver side fender, pretty much a Fender bender. It does have a few dings and dents but overall is a wonderful car. Things I've done in the past year:

2004 Rsx Base 5-Speed $3950

Been outta the game for a while.. Few questions.

My flex pipe on my dc sports race header got a tear in it, this happened before (4-5 years ago, in which I had a new flex pipe welded on). Since then its been fine and happened again now..

Is there anyway I can check the motor mounts myself for tears etc? I'm thinking if I dont need to replace them then I shouldn't..

If I do need to, what do you recommend to replace them with? I wanna keep the costs down etc, (had this car for 10 years now lol, don't care for it as much as I use too)

Also for the flex pipe I was quoted over $200 to replace it, im thinking about just buying a new race header, what do you recommend? Also wanting to keep costs down on that etc.

Wrong O2 Sensor connector, send back or splice?

I ordered a new Denso Direct-Fit O2 sensor to fix my p1166-67 codes, so I was expecting a primary.
After the impulse buy at a $50 discount(Still overpayed looking back) and screwing in the new sensor, I notice the connectors are the same! Looking back I see this was a huge NOOB mistake!

Can I do something to make it work, or should I just send it back? The sensor is just screwed in hangin' out for rn

02 RSX tuning for turbo

So this is my first post, and i dont have an rsx. But my friend does and we are going to turbo his 02 rsx type s. He bought a kit from an accord that had ktuner on its ecu. He got the ecu with the kit but we dont know if it will fit his harness. Doing alot of research but have found nothing on it. The harness seems to fit but we dont know if the pinout is the same. He also got a "jumper harness" is what the guy called it. He said it should work but we are not sure and i thought i would ask some rsx guys.

Btw if this is not on the right section im sorry, i didnt know where this question goes lol

Persistent popping noise, Spent over 1000

Ive replaced both outer tie rods, driver inner tie rod, brand new tein coilovers, got alignment, and still it makes a thud/popping noise when I turn my steering wheel at certain times, replacing the inner tie rod is the only thing that has made it better, it does it less but still does it, the sound and feeling is coming from the drivers side mostly, I think i need a whole new steering rack but my mechanic disagreed and said it was the inner tie rod because half way down the stock rod there is crimped connection that would shift when pressure was applied, so he thought it was that. This new rod is one piece and doesn't even have the crimped connection to make that same argument, so I'm at a loss , PLEASE PASS ON YOUR INFINITE KNOWLEDGE!!! Thanks guys

Looking for Cragar Style Mag wheels for 05 type S

searched several websites for Cragar style mag wheels, but having difficult time finding what I am looking for. The Cragar wheel website really doesn't make much for Acura wheel bolt pattern and/or size. Looking for the classic muscle car 5 spoke Cragar style mag for my car. Anyone have any helpful ideas or where I might find something that resembles this look that will fit?

Hi everyone. i just recently picked up a 2003 blue civic si ep3. I have owned quite a few hondas but this is my first ep3. Its been road rough and half assed together but i think she has a lot of potential. She seems to run well but has a few disconcerting error codes. I am hoping to become an active member of this forum and slowly get this car back in the condition that she deserves to be. I have had my share of fast, or should you say quick hondas. This one i just want to have a solid nice looking car. I don't care about fast anymore. Tell me what you think and I am always open to constructive criticism and ideas. Also can anyone help me with uploading some photos? apparently they are too large of files and i need to make them smaller but i 'have a clue how to..

I have an 02 type s and need new struts, rather than buying just struts i was thinking in getting this set because it's almost the same price. As the title says, i haven't made mind up about which would be easiest to do. my buddies recommend to just pull the engine and replace it that way, but with research it makes it seem like pulling the engine from the top is a hassle and I only have a cherry picker and i cant really just drop it from the bottom dont have a lift. I was wanting to just pull the head off and drop the oil pan and go about that way, but i would have to hone the block. i just recently rebuilt this motor about 5k. ( i was a little rough on her time to lay back a bit) if i was to Hone the block while its still on the car wouldnt that make it very messy and shaving be going everywhere?

what i am saying is can anyone link me to some guides about the best option. more or less i just need some advice that would make this much easier and not as time consuming.

2004 Rsx Base 5-Speed $3950

Hey CRSX, Im selling my Rsx Base Model 5-Speed to get a camry. It currently has 1574xx miles and will continue to go up as it's my daily. The Rsx is clean title but was involved in an accident by the previous owner but still holds a clean title no frame damage of that sort it is on the driver side fender, pretty much a Fender bender. 2004 Rsx Base 5-Speed $3950

Been outta the game for a while.. Few questions.

My flex pipe on my dc sports race header got a tear in it, this happened before (4-5 years ago, in which I had a new flex pipe welded on). Since then its been fine and happened again now..

Is there anyway I can check the motor mounts myself for tears etc? I'm thinking if I dont need to replace them then I shouldn't..

If I do need to, what do you recommend to replace them with? I wanna keep the costs down etc, (had this car for 10 years now lol, don't care for it as much as I use too)

Also for the flex pipe I was quoted over $200 to replace it, im thinking about just buying a new race header, what do you recommend? Also wanting to keep costs down on that etc.

Wrong O2 Sensor connector, send back or splice?

I ordered a new Denso Direct-Fit O2 sensor to fix my p1166-67 codes, so I was expecting a primary.
After the impulse buy at a $50 discount(Still overpayed looking back) and screwing in the new sensor, I notice the connectors are the same! Looking back I see this was a huge NOOB mistake!

Can I do something to make it work, or should I just send it back? The sensor is just screwed in hangin' out for rn

02 RSX tuning for turbo

So this is my first post, and i dont have an rsx. But my friend does and we are going to turbo his 02 rsx type s. He bought a kit from an accord that had ktuner on its ecu. He got the ecu with the kit but we dont know if it will fit his harness. Doing alot of research but have found nothing on it. The harness seems to fit but we dont know if the pinout is the same. He also got a "jumper harness" is what the guy called it. He said it should work but we are not sure and i thought i would ask some rsx guys.

Persistent popping noise, Spent over 1000

Ive replaced both outer tie rods, driver inner tie rod, brand new tein coilovers, got alignment, and still it makes a thud/popping noise when I turn my steering wheel at certain times, replacing the inner tie rod is the only thing that has made it better, it does it less but still does it, the sound and feeling is coming from the drivers side mostly, I think i need a whole new steering rack but my mechanic disagreed and said it was the inner tie rod because half way down the stock rod there is crimped connection that would shift when pressure was applied, so he thought it was that. This new rod is one piece and doesn't even have the crimped connection to make that same argument, so I'm at a loss , PLEASE PASS ON YOUR INFINITE KNOWLEDGE!!! Thanks guys

searched several websites for Cragar style mag wheels, but having difficult time finding what I am looking for. The Cragar wheel website really doesn't make much for Acura wheel bolt pattern and/or size. Looking for the classic muscle car 5 spoke Cragar style mag for my car. Anyone have any helpful ideas or where I might find something that resembles this look that will fit?

Hi everyone. i just recently picked up a 2003 blue civic si ep3. I have owned quite a few hondas but this is my first ep3. Its been road rough and half assed together but i think she has a lot of potential. She seems to run well but has a few disconcerting error codes. I am hoping to become an active member of this forum and slowly get this car back in the condition that she deserves to be. I have had my share of fast, or should you say quick hondas. This one i just want to have a solid nice looking car. I don't care about fast anymore. Tell me what you think and I am always open to constructive criticism and ideas. Also can anyone help me with uploading some photos? apparently they are too large of files and i need to make them smaller but i 'have a clue how to..

hey guys I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a difference between a 2002 base rsx (Canadian) and a 2002 type s also Canadian instrument/dash wiring harness? My harness is screwed and in search of a new one but all I can find is type s ones. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey guys new to the forum/social media thing, just wanting to get out there a bit. Long time Honda guy, been working on friends cars for 10 or so years, finally settled down two years ago and purchased my own drag project. Swapped K24 and made 465hp on ethanol, limited by my injectors but managed to get to 11.53 @ 123mph at nearly full weight on a 24.5" slick. For this year I decided to put the car on a big diet, full wire tuck, upgrade fuel system and go for 600hp on the stock block.

Anyone here still running on Axxis Ultimate brake pads? If so, where do I get them? I've been trying to find them but it seems nobody stocks them. I've also heard that the Stoptech Street pads are similar to these so that might be another option.

02 type-s misfiring and wont stay on

Good day fellas, sorry I have yet to introduce myself but im in a bit of a rut and am desperate for answers. Long story but ill try n keep this short and to the point, and hopefully itll help someone one day. I have an Acura RSX type-s 2002. It was running fine but got towed by the cops. I went to pick it up and suddenly wont stay on. Fishy. The shop didnt want to look at it because the previous owner did some wiring and he said he didnt want to get his hands on it, says its a mess, so I tow it to my house. Pretty much the car turns on and stays on for maybe 3 sec. If I let off the clutch it turns off instantly. If I put it in first it turns off instantly. If I give it gas it misfires loudly and turns off. had someone pull a code and it was the cam shaft position sensor so that was changed. Nothing has improved and now there saying it might be the timing chain may have skipped a tooth or something. the timing belt IS leaking and it wasnt before but today everyone is booked so noone is available to look at it at all. Losing sleep over this I just want my babayy back on the road. Any input is appreciated and ill update incase someone has the same issue in the future. Thank you.

instrument harness swap HELP!!

Hey guys iam currently in the process of replacing my Instrument wire harness. I have the dash out and the old harness un done from the dash and now I need a new one. im wondering if I need one for my exact car (2002 rsx base with leather 5 speed) or if one out of say a 2002 type s would work. My drl wiring melted which is why im replacing. any help would be appreciated or if anyone is looking to sell a harness let me know please

My front bumper on the right side is detached from the fender. I know this is a common issue with RSX's, so I imagine someone has fixed this without having to replace the whole bumper. (I was thinking of epoxying it)

K-Series Timing Chain Tensioner Cover Install

Hopefully this isn't a stupid question, but here we go.

I was just wondering if I need to do anything before I change out the timing chain tensioner cover with the K-Series cover? I'm changing it because I believe its leaking oil and well it was relatively cheap and simple.

So I've been eyeing this Base mode 2003 RSX for a week now and it looks really clean and has 140K miles on it. I just want to know if it has any bad transmission problems because I know hondas transmission on accords during that time were awful and very prone to failure. Any feedback would be awesome guys! Odd Idle & Poor Gas Mileage

Hey all,

First, 2002 Type-S, 169k, basically all stock. Intake and exhaust no Kpro or anything like that.

So last fall, I was participating in an autocross event, when sudden downpour ensued mid-run. By the time I crossed the timing light, the red flags were out and the rest of the night was cancelled. On my way back to the grid to grab some things, I had an up and down hunting idle, very similar to what you'd hear with a large vacuum leak. CEL also popped on, P0505.

Drove her home, and the following day took off the TB and cleaned the IACV. I did NOT remove the sensor that was attached to it....

Upon reinstalling everything, CEL went away, so did the fluctuating idle. Thought all was well! Until I drove the car round a bit... sitting at a red light, my idle dropped so low the car stalled out. Started back up right away, and it hasn't happened since (this was last fall). But I've been dealing with another strange idle issue since, and now that warm weather is coming back I want to get this resolved...

Currently:
No CEL
Poor gas mileage (got 24.4 mpg last tank, didn't even get 300 from full to gas light).
Cold idle is around 2k, warm idle is normal ~7-800.

The issue is that when the car is at normal operating temp and is put in neutral, the idle doesn't drop down to where it should be. At least not right away. It will sit at around 1100, until I'm completely stopped. Even the slightest roll and the RPM's won't drop. If I'm totally stopped and rev the engine, it will come down, sit at 1.1k for a brief second, and then drop down to normal.

When I'm coming to a stop at a red light, same thing, 1k until I'm totally stopped.

Before I start pulling things off again, does this sound like an IACV issue, or a TPS issue? Using a scan tool, TPS shows 10% at idle. I'll get an actual reading on it today leaving work. If I can figure out how to export the data from the app to a file and upload here I will do so...

Besides Bloomslang are there any other options for an ECU extension harness? I just can't justify spending $300 bucks on a extension harness. I will be installing my EPS and do not want to splice into my factory harness.

2005 RSX Type S Oil Problem

Hello!


I am a newbie here and on cars in general so bear with me. I have had this 05 RSX Type S for about 4 months now. It has 181,xxx kms now. After a week of purchasing it, noticed that valve cover gasket was leaking oil, so replaced it along with the o rings on spark plugs. I purchased a Fel Pro gasket, in the process of removing the rubber o rings, I broke the original ones. Looking at the Fel Pro ones, there's extra pieces on it. Confused, I just put the bigger one I think. I changed my oil too while at it, I recently used Penzoil Synthetic 5w-30, but changed it to a dino one, same brand and viscosity on my oil change.

So, thinking the oil loss would be fixed, I was wrong. After about 2000 kms, I lost about a quart. Searching here in the forums, I can only do the PCV Valve change, as suggested by other members. And no, the oil loss is still there. Constistent 1qt/2000kms.

Also, there are no drips under or something and I had my buddy followed my and floored it and no blue smoke or something so I don't know if its burning it or leaking it. I am also checking oil first thing in the morning so no change I have read it wrong. What could this be? Pretty new on cars so don't know much and a little bit of help will be appreciated!


Also changed the spark plugs, which I found out it has a white powdery stuff, suggesting I am running lean.

2003 Rsx Base Model Rack and Pinion Compatability

Hey everyone,
I have a 2003 base model automatic RSX and i need to swap out the Rack and Pinion. Found a guy that has one but its off of a Type S. Acura says they are different part numbers. Several "specialists" say that theyre not super familiar but if it has different part numbers than thats a big red flag. Are they interchangeable???
