Radio reception fix!!! Wow

I thought I'd give this a try as it's almost as if the stock Bose Radio isn't a power antenna, and every other car I have is perfect. This antenna has a power and ground wire so I went to the ignition power on the emergency button and the damb thing works like a dream. I get every station possible and even some wood from the sexy music stations. There are several types I suppose, but google this on Amazon to check it out. Jensen Marine AN150SR AM/FM Amplified Antenna. Ordered a second for my Base as well.

Wheel Spacer Problem

Hi,

This is my first post so bear with me. I just got wheel spacers for my car in what I thought was the right size (64.1mm CB, 5x114.3 etc). But when I got o install them, the brake rotor bevel was so wide that the spacer wouldn't fit flush onto the surface.

Not sure what size spacer to get now. Anyone have experience with this?

Help problem with throttle!!!

So I just put in a new clutch and rebuilt the tansmision and I drove my car and everything seemed fine but after about 30 mins when by my throttle response was weired it, when I would be in 3rd gear at about 2 and a half rpms the throttle would bog and it would feel like the car is slowing down but if I keep on accelerating then there is no problem only when I keep around 2-3 rpms depending on what gear I'm in. When this happens you can feel the car jerk and like dies out or something

Friendly list of service/repairs I've needed

Just wanted to throw out my list of services/repairs to help others possibly diagnose problems they may have with similar years/mileage. I've had the car for three years and live in Florida. Guy who sold it to me says it was located in texas prior to that. Basic fluid flushes, oil changes, spark plug changes, etc. are not listed.

I own a 2003 Type-S... these are my stories:

9/11/13 - 122400 mi - purchased car
11/20/13 - 124000 mi - replaced vtec solenoid gasket (leaking), VC gasket, spark plug wells, and primary O2 A/F sensor (threw code)
1/15/14 - 125700 mi - replaced serpentine belt (worn)
3/12/14 - 127100 mi - replaced belt auto-tensioner and pulley (getting noisy)
12/13/14 - 134300 mi - replaced PCV valve (preventative)
3/7/16 - 146203 mi - "popped a tank" - radiator was leaking where metal met plastic... installed ebay radiator
5/12/16 - 148500 mi - replaced clutch with Exedy OEM kit, replaced rear main seal, replaced rear engine mount (rubber deteriorating)
6/8/16 - 149200 mi - replaced both tie rod ends with OEM (boots torn and leaking)
11/17/16 - 154000 mi - replaced driver front caliper with Nuguen reman (was making clunking noise, but still 100% functional)
12/9/16 - 154500 mi - replaced front crankshaft oil seal (leaking)

All in all not bad for a 13 year old car with 155k

No crank after clutch install

Hey guys, I just got finished doing my own clutch job on my 02 Type S. Before anything else, I will say that the battery was out of the vehicle for a good 2 weeks, as I don't have much time outside of work and have to take it a step at a time.

The only electrical connectors I unplugged were the 3 on the bell housing, plus the transmission ground strap, which are all back in their correct spots(I even used a wire brush on the ground strap). The starter wiring was not touched at all. I know my ignition switch is fine, as I've metered the starter wire by the steering column and have 12v. If I hold the key in the start position, I can hear the starter relay clicking when the clutch makes contact with the upper safety switch.

I've done a good bit of reading on the issue, and it seems that the problem most people are having after installing a clutch is the engine will crank, but not start. I just get no crank at all.

I did have a couple engine codes prior to doing the install, one was a P1298 for ELD and the other was something for the O2 sensors. They are both gone, however, I have not had the engine running since reinstalling the battery.

My battery is fine, as it's less than a month old, and metered at 12.3v. I have full power on the dash and to all accessories. I also had no issues whatsoever with the starter/clutch safety switches before doing the clutch. I have manually moved the clutch and safety switches to see if it was a pedal alignment problem, but to no avail. I have metered every single fuse in the car and they're all fine. I can also hear the fuel pump come on.

At this point, I'm stumped. Everything I'm reading keeps coming back to ground issues, which makes sense, but all my grounds are exactly as they were before starting the project. I'm wondering if there's something obvious that I've managed to overlook, or are there more tests I can do to narrow down the problem?

Innovative motor mount vibration

Long story short, I have all 4 85a Innovative motor mounts installed on the car and want to reduce the vibration for daily driving. My questions are:

1. Will changing just the 2 side mounts back to stock help with the vibration? ( I'd like to keep the front and back mount 85a because they are a bitch to install)

2. Is it safe to run the 2 stock side mounts while having the front and back mounts at 85a. (Will the engine load during normal driving, transfer to the weakest mounts i.e the stock mounts and give me issues? If so what issues?

Please let me know. Thank you.

Need advice on Rear Speakers Stock 02 RSX

I will be installing some new rear speakers in my RSX and I am extremely confused on what the actual size of the speakers are. I have read countless posts on this website and others about the rear speakers being 6 1/2" and some that say it is 5 1/4". The crutchfield website only shows 5 1/4" size speakers as ones that fit in my 02 stock RSX. I am bothered because of course I would prefer to have 6 1/2 speakers in my rear panels if possible but have absolutely no interest in using a dremel tool to fit the 6 1/2 speakers into my panels as some posts on this site have said is required. If somebody could give me a 100% without a doubt answer on the size requirements for my REAR speakers that would be greatly appreciated. Crutchfield also includes a spacer adapter with the 5 1/4 speakers. Also, if you have any opinions on which speakers out of the couple that I will link to are the best option please inform me.

Part compatibility

First post on the forums, so not sure if this is the right section for this question

So, I recently bought a base 2004 RSX. To make a long story short, I got scammed and the car isn't smog legal. I need to head to the junkyard to get a stock air intake. My question is, is the intake from the 2006 base compatible with the 2004? If not, what's the cheapest way to get the factory intake, including all the sensors, wires, etc.?

K20a3 noise. opinions pls

Hey. Im basically new to k series.
I bought a rsx base (k20a3) with a knocking (ticking) sound almost as loud noise as the one on the video link below
It does not feels like it looses power. Is just noisy. The person the I bought it from used the car loke this for over a month and never stopped working.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=B1EsOpZvYus

I didn't have time to mess with it so I replaced it with another k20a3 and made the car manual and all that within a week. So far is working great.

Im a project guy and I like new stuff to do and I don't pay for stuff that I have the tools to get them done. So fixing this engine, that is not expensive at all (so it dont matter if I fck it up), will get me some experience in k20s for when I decide to go bigger with a k20a2 or 24.

Just to be clear, I'm not trying to upgrade a k20a3. Im just trying fix it and refresh the engine just because a have nothing to do in my free time lol. And have a spare engine.

My questions is not if is worth it or not. Is just the opinion of experienced people with k20 on what could I probably find wrong ( a bad rod, cam, timing chain, bad valve ect) and what to check first. I checked the valves adjustments... it did help but not enough to stop the noise and I immediately swap the engine and throw away the auto transmission.

( i needed it a car to go to work). If you have an idea of what could it be, please let me know. I'll take all the opinions with respect. Thanks.

New CMC and CSC installed, no pedal pressure or oil at bleed screw

I just installed new civic 01-05 cmc and rsx csc, I have no pedal pressure and no oil in csc apparently. The csc is currently pulled out/not attached to frame of car (however the oil line is attached), its sitting lower than the reservoir, no oil comes out from the csc bleed screw with gravity bleed. Reservoir fluid level is full and does not change.

How to fix this?

Thanks

2017 Acura MDX Review

Quote:

Keeping up in today’s fast-paced world of technology can be a hard thing to do, and just like with cameras and smartphones, the automotive industry seems to be moving faster than ever.

So how do automakers cope with the speed of things when they are not ready with an all-new model? By wrapping new skin around an old frame and selling it as all-new. A prime example? Meet the 2017 Acura MDX.

For 2017, what’s newest about the MDX is what you see. There are some packaging changes and some added content, but for the most part, the new styling is the biggest change here. Some of the visual additions include the diamond pentagon grille, restyled jewel eye headlights and a fresh front bumper. I’ll let you decide if it’s good looking or not, but one thing seems certain. The exterior redesign was extensive, but the changes on the inside, not so much.

New Member Just bought a $1500 RSX

Hello Everyone, Just thought I would join the club since i just purchased a RSX Type S and may have a question every now and then. I just came across the car yesterday and thought it would be a good winter project/ DD. It is a one owner female owned 2004 Type S. The car is in overall very good condition for age and mileage. I have an extensive mechanical background working for subaru mostly but also honda. It is amazing how these cars hold up if taken care of. Any recommendations or advice for a new owner? Looking to give the car a once over. The clutch seems a little soft and the owner told me they had to ad fluid to the resevoir. So this suggest a master/slave issue. Other then that it seems fine. Thank You

Oil Pressure Switch leaking oil

Long story short, I started noticing some oil drops on the garage floor. Upon inspection I found that it's coming from the oil pressure switch behind the block near the oil filter.

I have found the part on acuraoemparts.com but noticed that there are two versions of the same switch. One being manufactured by "TEC" other by "Denso". Does anyone know if there is a difference between the two? Thanks!

Throttlebody issue with weird speedometer issue

Hey guys,

Last week I noticed my speedometer dropping for a second or two out on the way to work, which progressivly got worse. CEL light came on and I thought it was just the speed sensor.

I decided to check the CEL code anyway and got p0122, throttle body low input voltage.

I thought that was strange as there were no other throttle body symptoms at the time, but since then I have noticed that the car seems more clunky in first gear while driving around in low speed and sometimes the throttle essentially dies or doesn't seem to open fully for a second or two at which point I take my foot off the accelerator, place it back on and then it's fine.

My speedometer doesn't work most of the time, I do find it is better after driving around for a little bit and the car warms up, it also seems to come back while I plant my foot down in WOT in a lowish gear. VTEC also stops working and it seems to be running rich, getting about 200km per tank instead of 300 or so.

Has anyone else had this issue before, I haven't seen a speedometer issue combined with a throttle body issue here. My car only threw out the one code. The car idles fine as well.

What are my options? I have a 2005 Type S. Realistically can cleaning the throttle body do anything? I went to a honda specialising mechanic and he said a new Throttle Body will be $1500 AUD as they dont sell the sensors by themselves and second hand Throttle bodies for the Type S are hard to find here in Australia. He said he may be able to replace the TPS from a similar era car but he can't make promises as they are closing down for the Christmas break.

Will any DC5 throttle body fit? I believe that K20A2 and 3 throttle bodies have different cabling arrangements but I am not sure. K20Z1 in my car. I'd rather buy one second hand one rather than forking out an amount that I can't afford, but I can't seem to find any Type S' in wreckers near me.

Any help would be appreciated!

So Im asking on advice on what brands to stick with on what part. I want power ... but I have to have the mid range so for the headers im thinking 4-2-1 ktuned or dc sports ....? Thinking about the skunk 2 pro intake manifold and hks hi power exhaust. Thoughts appreciated

Bone stock type s ... just making sure I am making good choices ...

CEL after jdm swap code p1166

As the title states I had to do an engine swap on my base auto rsx. I found a jdm k20 + the tranny for cheap online (1500) and went for it. Got a local guy to drop it in and he said everything was fine except the sports shift and cruise control don't work anymore (apparently the Japanese model doesnt have these) and the check engine light was on. I wasn't worried about it at the time because we don't have emissions laws in this part of Georgia but now that I'm trying to sell or trade in the car (type s here I come :hb: ) I want to get rid of the light. The guy I took it to the 1st time said he had no idea how to get rid of it but he knew the code and it's p1166. Idk what that means I'm not all that auto savy yet only 1 semester in auto tech school so if anyone knows anything that can help it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

starter noise problem SOLUTION

been having the seemingly common "noise during startup issue" for a while, and now that the temps are freezing cold it's become quite consistent. I've been holding off dealing with the issue because accessing the starter requires removing the intake manifold (or in my case, supercharger), but a few days ago i went ahead and pulled the starter and decided to do a little exploratory surgery to identify what's hanging it up...

long story short, i completely disassembled the starter and cleaned and regreased everything. i didnt think to take any photos, but it's pretty straightforward if you pay attention to how it comes apart (maybe take some photos). the whole "rebuild" process took less than an hour.

end result was no more noise, which was likely a cause of the starter gear not making full engagement with the flywheel ring gear, or not retracting when it should.

here's some tips:
  • i polished the armature area where the commutator brushes ride with some red scotchbrite, the brushes looked fine and difficult to clean
  • make sure to use a good screwdriver on the two little phillips screws, and use a hammer to seat the bit firmly before trying to loosen (you only get one shot or you'll strip the head)
  • separating the end of the starter that provides access to the sliding pinion gear and lever is a bit tricky. tapping the steel starter body at an angle seemed to do the trick. when it finally did come apart, there was a considerable amount of wear debris in that cavity, and i'm 99% sure that area was the source of the binding
  • clean everything thoroughly with brakeclean and then re-lube (i used a some moly disulphide engine assembly prelube)

merry xmas and good luck, and post some photos if you go for it!

K20/24 BUILD Suggestions

So I recently started a Frank. build k24a2 bottom a2 head. so far just got the block back from the machine shop with forged wiseco pistons and rods CP 11.5:1 compression. I have everything for boost already but not really in a rush to use it I really want to try this all motor thing first. I have roughly 12k to play with so I'm taking suggestions on what would make a really good all motor setup.

open to all suggestion :run: and yes boost is coming ust not right now

Tein advance Z coilovers + pillowball mounts problem

I recently purchased the tein advance Z coilovers as well as tein pillowball upper mounts so that I can adjust the camber once it's lowered a bit.

I received a call from the shop and they are confused because there is no bushing/rubber bumper included to keep the pillow bolt plate from being metal on metal with the coilover.

I called tein because according to the picture of the coilover I thought it came with said piece but supposedly the Advance Z coilovers do not.

I know that the advance Z is originally designed to use the OEM rubber bumper and top hat but after reading about people using pillowball mounts I thought that it was a possible upgrade that will fit these coilovers.

The piece that I seem to be missing is the piece furthest to the right past the coilover. It looks like a silver round spacer plate like thing in this product picture.

So questions are: 1) Can I actually use Tein Pillowball upper mounts with Tein Advance Z coilovers and if so it seems I'm missing a crucial piece.
2) if the pillowball mounts reall don't work with the advance Z (which seems crazy that something with such an almost identical design to their other coilovers for the rsx) is there a camber plate that I can get for the fronts that work or am I stuck with the less reliable camber bolts that you can buy.
3)if I'm stuck with OEM top hats my shop was saying that the springs on the original shock are much larger diameter and that the oem rubber bumper ring that sits between the top hat and spring would not stay on the new tein Springs because they are much smaller and it would just fall down around it. So how/what do I do to install these coilovers without the new pillowball mounts.

Thanks it's a lot of explaining but there's no one I can find who's had these problems and I'm no expert. Plus I can't have my car just sitting in a shop for days upon days. Hoping to get answers ASAP.
