White Smoke from Exhaust, Unrepairable? What to do?

Hi all -- I have a 2003 RSX Type S with approximately 160,000 miles. The exhaust is blowing white smoke and the vehicle is revving up loudly on its own. I also hear some rattling underneath the car. I had done some research and concluded the revving issue might be an indicator that the idle control valve needs cleaning. However, a friend says the white smoke from the exhaust means "engine death is coming," and it could be the engine valves or pistons. I know from my oil change guy that the vehicle was burning oil. I am not in a position to fix major issues. Is this car beyond repair? I am contemplating asking a mechanic to come diagnose it ... I can't drive it so he would need to make a house call. Any thoughts or insights on the issue and what I should do?
