Hey guys, I just got finished doing my own clutch job on my 02 Type S. Before anything else, I will say that the battery was out of the vehicle for a good 2 weeks, as I don't have much time outside of work and have to take it a step at a time.
The only electrical connectors I unplugged were the 3 on the bell housing, plus the transmission ground strap, which are all back in their correct spots(I even used a wire brush on the ground strap). The starter wiring was not touched at all. I know my ignition switch is fine, as I've metered the starter wire by the steering column and have 12v. If I hold the key in the start position, I can hear the starter relay clicking when the clutch makes contact with the upper safety switch.
I've done a good bit of reading on the issue, and it seems that the problem most people are having after installing a clutch is the engine will crank, but not start. I just get no crank at all.
I did have a couple engine codes prior to doing the install, one was a P1298 for ELD and the other was something for the O2 sensors. They are both gone, however, I have not had the engine running since reinstalling the battery.
My battery is fine, as it's less than a month old, and metered at 12.3v. I have full power on the dash and to all accessories. I also had no issues whatsoever with the starter/clutch safety switches before doing the clutch. I have manually moved the clutch and safety switches to see if it was a pedal alignment problem, but to no avail. I have metered every single fuse in the car and they're all fine. I can also hear the fuel pump come on.
At this point, I'm stumped. Everything I'm reading keeps coming back to ground issues, which makes sense, but all my grounds are exactly as they were before starting the project. I'm wondering if there's something obvious that I've managed to overlook, or are there more tests I can do to narrow down the problem?
