Clicking Noise Under Glove box.

Long time follower and I`ve finally found something to make a post about.

I have a 2002 RSX-s and I have a clicking noise coming from under the passenger side dash. It will have this noise periodically and then go away for a few days. I`m looking for anyone that can point me in the right direction for finding the issue?

I just replaced the AC resistor 2 days ago to fix my AC. (I had the clicking noise before replacing this )

Thanks in advance,

Crank speed

Can anyone tell me the normal crank speed of an '02 Type S?

My Type S isn't starting right now, and it's cranking at a little over 170rpm. But my '03 Accord (K24) cranks at 157rpm, so I'm wondering if a crank speed as high as 170 might indicate a compression problem. (I don't have a gauge)

Hello from Central Washington

My name is Bill, this is my son's 2002 RSX Type-S that he paid waaay too much for 2 years ago. But to be truthful these cars are holding their value, no matter how much their previous owners abuse them--a sign of a great car. I like the car a lot, but I tried to destroy it when I towed it home from San Diego where he is currently stationed. The CV axle came out of the transmission and tried to club the transmission and sub-frame to death. Luckily these things can be fixed, all it takes is money and time. So I am fixing it, and everything else I find, like torn motor mounts, torn compliance bushings, and oil leaks along the way. So far I've learned a lot about these cars from forums like this one and look forward to participating.

Possibly Buying a 04' Type-S 6-speed on Saturday

Hi all! A close friend of mine's dad is off-loading his 04' Type-S on Saturday and asked me if I wanted it for an insanely cheap price so I'm likely going to buy it regardless but I was wondering what I should be looking out for on these cars?

What I do know is he is original owner, never modified the car ever and it has like 180-190k miles on it. It has the original clutch and last time I drove it it was like 10k miles ago and honestly the clutch felt fine to me. My friend says "you should replace the clutch" but I don't see the need if its grabs just fine. Are they pretty simple to change on these cars?

As far as the VTEC system and engine, is there anything special I should look out for? Do these use timing belts or chains? Also are there lift bolts like on the Toyota 2ZZ-GE? I did see that the thermostats are problematic but that shouldn't be an issue to address.

Any notorious places these cars rust? I read about the taillight seals leaking, any other weird problems like that to keep an eye out for?

Also, the seats are the "titanium" (Puke tan) color and are totally torn to hell in the front. I've been trying to find a decent pair of front seats in that color but everyone is selling black. Anyone know if the titanium leather covers can be swapped out on the existing seats?

What is that reservoir behind passenger side headlight?

I effed up today and rear ended somebody. The engine remained on and car was driveable. Driver side door can't open all the way now and I have to use to passenger door to get in and out. I was damn lucky nobody got hurt.
The only fluid loss was from I think the reservoir behind the passenger side headlight. I did not want to open the hood for fear it may not be able to close again so I couldn't really get a good look the reservoir in question.
Do I need to fill that reservoir back up before driving car again? What is that reservoir?

Two issues both suspension. Pulls left with no throttle and tie rod question?

I had my car aligned this weekend and the guy doing my alignment said that he ran out of threads to adjust my toe while leaving my front camber at -2ish and had to bring it down to almost zero camber just to set toe withing spec. My question on this topic is do i need a shorter tie rod or longer. If i remember right from the spec sheet when the camber was around -2 i had toe in. Im lowered on bc racing coil overs, not the extreme drops.

My other question came after the alignment the guy told me that he noticed when taking my car for a test drive that when under acceleration my car drove perfectly straight but when letting out of the throttle completely the car has a major drift to the left. He said he thinks its either the sub-frame shifting of the steering rack shifting. My question is what things would i need to look at to check and see which one it is. I have also researched a little and have seen that it could possibly be my control arm bushings have gone bad but am unsure how to check this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

High pitched pinging noise at 3k RPM

My car has been making this noise since I bought the car last spring. The pinging doesn't start until I hit between 2800-3500 rpm. Going past 3500, the noise goes away.

I showed my mechanic the noise and he told me it was either the pulleys or the serpentine belt or both and will need to be changed. He said it was no big deal.

But after going out for a drive earlier this evening, the noise now starts at 2500 rpm.

I hope its not the timing chain or the valves. Or maybe it could be the tensioner for the timing chain.

Please help. I tried to post a video but its not working.

car making rattling/whining noises when driving

Hi there!

I've been having a recurring and rather annoying issue with my Type-S for about a year now and am hoping to receive some input. Here is what I'm experiencing:

1. My car has been making a buzzing noise around 2-3k RPM when I accelerate. It's more noticeable when I step on the gas hard or am going up a hill, but is nonexistent if I'm just cruising on flat ground. The noise is intermittent and only happens sometimes. Once it starts, however, I can replicate it until I shut off the engine and stop driving. It seems like it's coming from the rear end of the car and goes away if I put a silencer in my muffler (I have a new GReddy Revolution RS muffler paired with a Magnaflow resonator and stainless steel pipe around six years old).

2. I've been noticing a whistling noise similar to that of a tea kettle. Similar to the buzzing sound, it disappears when I use a silencer and doesn't occur all the time. Unlike the buzz, however, the whistling is most noticeable when driving around 40-60 mph and is not affected by my RPM or how much throttle I'm applying. It appears to come from around the middle or even toward the front of the car and the noise goes away when I push in the clutch. It usually occurs for a few seconds, goes away, and comes back a little while later.

These are the two problems I've been having, and so far I've been unsuccessful in pinpointing why this is happening. The fact that both issues disappear once I install a silencer makes me believe that there's something going on with the exhaust system, but I could be wrong. I've already taken my car to a shop and looked at it myself; there doesn't seem to be any loose parts or areas where rattling can occur. As for the whistling, I'm at a complete loss. Any and all ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Left turn signal not working / buzz sound

Hi guys so I have an issue with my turn signals and it's kind of random.

Half the time the driver side turn signal is buzzing and it doesn't work at all
The passenger side turn signal always works in the rear but it never works in the front
Sometime it'll work fine after buzzing for a while but the when you turn the passenger signal on it'll show up on the driver side in the front and passenger in the rear.

So in short:
Rear works for the left side half the time. Right all the time.
Front Right never works. Left sometimes works. And even if you do a right turn signal it'll come to the front left when it works

It's really random and appeared a couple of days ago. I have a feeling it's poor wiring or something failing. What are your guy's opinions?

Thank you

Clearing out some left over RSX parts.

Located in Caledon, ON. but am usually running around the GTA.

1) 02-04 OEM Fog Light Kit - $100
Complete OEM kit including lenses, brackets, shrouds, exterior wiring harness, interior wiring harness, and interior switch. Both lenses are cracked so this would be good to upgrade a cheap aftermarket fog light kit or you can just order some lexan replacement lenses and you're good to go.

2) 02-04 JDM DC5R "H" Front Emblem - $30
Honda emblem is broken, but you can't really tell from 2' away. The base is painted SSM.

3) 02-04 JDM DC5R Front Lip - $150
OEM with all brackets and hardware. The lip has a bunch of rock chips and some scuffs along the bottom, no where near perfect, but looks good from a few feet away.

4) 02-04 OEM Front Bumper - $50
Original SSM from my 02 Type-S. In good shape, upper grille was colour matched silver to look like a JDM DC5R bumper. Has cut-outs for the OEM fog lights. Bunch of rock chips and road rash, but nothing too serious.

**Take items #1-4 for $280

5) 02-04 OEM A-Spec Rear Lip (BRAND NEW) - $200
Never installed!! Factory painted Eternal Blue Pearl (B-96P), a super rare colour only available in 2004. Missing hardware

6) 02-06 JDM DC5R Side Skirts / Rocker Guards - $150
Painted SSM. One has a scuff along the bottom, but it's not that noticeable once it's installed onto the car. Left & right, rare to find in SSM!

7) 02-06 OEM Side Skirts / Rocker Guards - $20
Unpainted matte black, left & right.

8) OEM K-Series Matte Black Coil Cover - $10
Cracked at one mounting point, but not noticeable once it's installed.

9) OEM JDM DC5R K-Series Matte Silver Coil Cover - $20
Cracked at one mounting point, but not noticeable once it's installed.

10) OEM JDM DC5R Intake Manifold Cover - $30
In good condition, but previous owner cut a small notch out of the top to run an extra ground cable.

11) 05-06 OEM USDM RSX Type-S K20Z1 Exhaust Manifold & Downpipe w/ Cat - $150
In good working condition, car had 125K when it was removed. Includes both O2 sensors. This has been in storage for a while now, but should still be good and working.

12) 02-06 OEM RSX Heated Seat Switches, Panel, and Wire Harness - $60
Good for anyone looking to add heated seats to their base model.

13) 02-06 JDM DC5 Type-S Door Sills / Kick Plates - $50
Titanium/Tan colour, so not very useful for us Canadians. However, you can easily take the "Integra Type-S" plaques off and stick them onto your stock sills.

Check Engine Codes P1163

So i have had my 2002 RSX Type S for around 6-9 years now, completely stock, haven't done anything to it besides routine maintenance.

Entire time i have owned the car i ocassicnally get the check engine light coming on and off. Bought a reader years ago to diagnose the issue and found it was code P1163 $11, so i replaced the Primary O2 sensor. The CE light stayed off for awhile but then it came back on and off randomly.

Ive read that it might be an electrical error or something else. Anyone have any clue why it keeps popping up? I usually just clear the error when it comes up.

Check Engine Codes P1163

Several Codes appeared after Clutch replacement on 2002 RSX Type S

Had a "friend of a friend" replace clutch on my 2002 RSX type S. During replacement, I was I formed that he accidentally broke the Knock Sensor while putting Starter back in. He assured me he ordered & replaced a new one. Car was delivered with no mention of the check engine light was on. Thought nothing of it, thinking it was due to possibly Knock sensor code just needed to be cleared. Then had a couple unusual instances while refueling. Car refused to fully turn over as it knocked, spitted & sputtered..Even after turning ignition off it kept this up..Turning ignition back on just gave that familiar starter sound. This lasted for little over 60 seconds before it finally fired up..Also noticed that Battery light flashes when going over hard bumps in the road. Battery is secure, terminal connects good, harness tight and serpentine belt seems tight..
Had O'Reilly's run diagnostic & 4 codes came up. They reset and I took it for a short spin to see if any codes cleared. Engine light came back on, and sso did all 4 codes as follows: LEFT FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR; REAR RIGHT OUTLET SOLENOID SENSOR MALFUNCTION; LOW VOLTAGE; KNOCK SENSOR 1...
Have not been able to get in touch with the mechanic, so my main concern is that the KNOCK SENSOR is the wrong one for my car, or was replaced with a used barely working one, or not replaced at all... if anyone has any suggestions on any of these issues...BTW, Clutch feels great...lol:deadhorse

Squeeking rear end, tread loss and maybe bouncing

Hey guys, I just purchased a base model 2003 RSX a few weeks ago it's lowered with green coilovers (don't know what kind) and it has 75k miles. The day after driving it home I noticed there's was a smell of burning rubber coming from my back tires, and black stuff all over my back bumper.. 3 weeks later and my back tires are completely bald, there's also a squeeking noise coming from the rear end when I hit bumps and the car seems like it might be a lil bouncy but I've never had a lowered car so idk if that's normal. I took it to les schwab and they told me it looks like the alignment might be off and they'd like to start with that for 90 bucks but I'm worried that the struts might be bad too and if I end up replacing them myself after they align my rear end will I need to take it back for another 90 dollar alignment?? Would the struts be the cause of my alignment being so far off? Could it be the bushings?

Recurring p0420 problem

I have a 2002 rsx type-s with around 240000kms. had a p0420 about 1.5 years ago, so i went ahead and replaced the cat with a magnaflow and did both sensors at the same time.

Within 2 months the engine light began blinking on the highway, then stayed on, and when i had the local guys scan it, sure enough p0420. so i've been driving it with an engine light on for a while (which really bugs me, i'm a fix it right away kind of guy) because they didn't seem to be able to figure it out. but now i'll be coming up for emissions again this year so now i really have to deal with it.

My first though was to start by cleaning and testing the harness once the weather clears up here (ontario canada) to make sure i'm getting reliable connections, but i wondered: it burns a decent amount of oil, say a litre every 6 or 8 fill-ups, could that be gunking up the sensors? i think i'm going to replace the pcv valve and see if that helps with the oil burning in the mean time. at this point i'm willing to try one of those 20 dollar pass your emissions test additives if it gets me passed for now.

i appreciate any suggestions you guys might have.

best,
-Eric

AFR Sensor and O2 Sensor - Primary / Secondary Question

Hi guys,

Quick question.

How do I know which one is the primary and secondary? I am thinking of changing them both soon but unsure which is which.

I understand there is the downstream / upstream term.

Is the one closer to the engine the primary upstream (Before catalytic converter) and the one after, closer to the exhaust exit the secondary downstream?

Also, just want to confirm - is the primary one known as the AFR sensor and the secondary one known as the O2 sensor?

I know this is such a noob question but I could not really find a thread on it even with Google's help...

Thanks for checking out my thread, any guidance greatly appreciated~!

Water running down a-pillars, help!

As the title says, when it rains water starts running down my a-pillars from between the metal bodywork. There is a small line of rust on each side in the a-pillar where the water is leaking. I poured water into the sunroof and the front drain pipes are working fine. There is no water in the trunk or around the c-pillars. I ran my finger around the lip of the headliner to see if it was the windshield, and it felt dry, but still could possibly be the windshield? I saw a previous post with rust and water running down the exact same spot as me and his ended up being the windshield, but I don't know how to heck for that. I live in downtown Chicago and don't have a good place to take my headliner out to get a better look, and I'm paranoid about pulling off the rubber gasket at the top of the windshield because I have no idea how it goes back on. Any suggestions? Thanks!

CEL AND 4000 rpm limit

After two weeks I started my 05 rsx base and the check engine came on. I was fixing the water leak in the cabin. Then I realized that I can't rev more than 4000 rpm. I took to the orielys and they said it's probabely my oil pressure switch or my Vtec pressure switch. Can it be because it's been raining the most of the time it was sitting around?
PLEASE HELP!0

Just want shifter knob lower

Im look for a short shifter that will lower my shifter height . I am not so much interested in reducing the throw as I am in lowering the actual knob height, I've looked at all the forums regarding short shifters, most aren't sold anymore and the ones that are are complete replacements that don't really reduce height much, ANY suggestion is appreciated
