Clutch issues

So I'm having some issues with my clutch. I believe it is the clutch slave cylinder. The clutch won't engage and the motor cuts off if it is put in gear. The first time this happened the motor cut off 3 times before I could get enough momentum to park my car. When I opened the hood there was smoke coming from the clutch slave cylinder area and it smelled like a "burning clutch." There weren't any fluids leaking from any hoses and the reservoirs didn't lose any fluid. When I took a look at the csc the rubber was in bad shape. So I bought a new csc to replace the old one with and I was going to get help from a friend to replace it but it turns out he can't make time to help. I've looked at a few DIY's on it and it looks like I could do it on my own if I bought a bleeder. I have changed my suspension to coilovers, installed a short shifter, and a couple different intakes but that's about it. Should I attempt it on my own? Sorry if this is a silly question
