P2647: Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch - Diagnostic and Installation Help

Hi all,

First off, thanks for dropping in.

I understand this problem seems to be quite common with RSX from reading these threads on this forum. I want to just say I am not a expert car enthusiast, just like my RSX and have been driving it since the very first day that I bought it in 2004. Saving money is important for me right now because I want to start a family. It's my main daily driver.

I drive an automatic and this CEL has been bothering me on and off for some time. The colder the days, the better the symptoms and the hotter the days, the CEL just stays on. I finally bought an used BlueDriver ODBII reader to check my CEL code and P2647 showed up.

It's indicating a Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch issue and 4 possible causes with 2 solutions.

Causes:

- PCM (What is PCM?) has failed (Substitute known good PCM and then retest.

- VTEC oil pressure switch circuit is open.

- VTEC oil pressure switch has failed.

- VTEC switch connector is damaged (Check pins for damage, and for moisture)

Solutions:

- Replace VTEC Oil Pressure Switch.

- Replace VCT (Is this VTEC?) Solenoid.

I bought a service manual from online seller for my car to see what these are and I have learned a little bit more now but still need some help in the actual locating and replacement of these parts - including sourcing them online.

Observation Inside Manual and Questions:

1. It seems there are 3-4 bolts holding the entire Rocker Arm Oil Control Solenoid Unit.

Q: Where is this entire unit located?

2. It seems the Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch is attached to this Solenoid Unit.

Q: Should I try to clean the contacts first or just buy a new Oil Pressure Switch?

3. Inside the OBDII Repair Report, it says VCT in one of the solutions. However, inside the official service manual, it says VTC. Is this the same or 2 completely different parts? I have a feeling they are unrelated but I do not really know.

4. Dielectric Grease (AKa Electrode Grease?).

Q: I read online some people mentioned getting some electrode grease (Not sure if it's a slang or actually called that) and to use it on the connector areas after cleaning to prevent corrosion and rust. Are there any kind you guys recommend that is good for this sort of application?

This CEL issue has been going on for awhile now, and initially, I've always thought it might be related to upstream / downstream primary / secondary O2 / fuel sensor (Again very new to this) - but I was very surprised that code related to it did not appear and instead this P2647 code appeared.

Again, appreciate any help, link or guide provided. This car is very important to me not only due to our history together, but for getting the family around.
