Hello all, new to the board. My apologies for the long post, but the back story is needed to fully understand the dilemma.
I purchased a 2006 RSX Type S for my son last week.
The car is a recovered theft with only 35K miles and it's VERY clean. It was NOT wrecked at all from the theft and we have the auto check report (cometes with carfax) as well as a photo of the recovered theft.
The title has been restored in PA and we're in the process of registering it
in NJ through the selling dealer, however the insurance company (Liberty Mutual),who has issued a policy, has required full pictures including one of the VIN sticker in the driver's door jamb. Only the original riveted VIN plate under the windshield remains.
From the theft, it was hidden for 3.5 yrs before being discovered and turned into the ins. company, who in turn sold it at auction. The dealer that I purchased it from did a full safety inspection, some minor maintanence including all fluid change. However, during the theft, allof the VIN stickers were removed, AND the stamped-in VIN # on the firewall was cut out. The dealer has since done a wonderful job of welding a patch section that is seamless-appearing and repainted to match perfectly, however the VIN # hasn't been restamped.
I contacted a company online that recreates original door jamb sitckers, however we don't have the required photo of the original. They said a build sheet would provide them with all of the info to be able to make the sticker, but we don't have that either, and calling Acura's consumer line didnt' help, nor did a call to a local Acura dealer's service and parts department.
Can someone help with any good suggestion of how a replacement sticker can be obtained? We are certain that the remaining VIN # matches this car 100%, but need to pass this current insurance company requirment hurdle.
This is a great driving car and has many, many good years ahead of it, and I just want my sone to be able to enjoy it.
Lastly, does anyone know if the barcode that is on the VIN door jamb sticker is used by anyone outside of an Acura service department? I.E., would NJ state inspeciton DMV need to scan that barcode?
Thanks in advance for anyone that can help!
Jeff
