Amsoil 10w-40 Still burning oil

So before I dynod my car my tuner suggested I do an oil change but I forgot to.. On the day of the tune I brought it to him he said he can just top off and when he checked my oil I had to top off 2-3 quarts of oil. He added the 10w 40 amsoil XL and said that should help with the oil burning. Before the top off I had only driven 4000km or 2500 miles and now I'm at around 4000 miles or 1500 more miles and my oil level has dropped more than 1/3 again. Can this be indication of serious problems??
