Help! Power Steering Problems

So over the past few days my car has been making a nasty whine when I crank it cold. The sound persist the first time I drive it. But if I stop driving it then come back an hour or more later ( like after class or work) then the sound goes away. I know my power steering has a leak. I know the o ring seal is shot and needs replacing ( there's fresh fluid after start up right under the joint on the pump). Ordered the parts from OemAcuraParts.com just waiting for delivery. Now here's my question, would running the car with this leak mess up my pump? If so, is there a way to bypass the pump so I'm running no power steering. I've searched for answers and nothing. Will I be okay just running my car for the next few days as I wait for the parts to come in the mail or will I destroy my power steering pump? :( thanks
